Insufficiency fractures after pelvic radiotherapy in patients with prostate cancer
A potential limitation of this retrospective study is that we had no pre-treatment bone mineral density (BMD) tests to assess the presence and severity of this cohort of elderly patients. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is well known to cause a decrease in bone mineral density and increased fracture risk. Most of these fractures are vertebral and hip fractures, and sacral IF itself has not been studied. In our study, we did not observe any fractures outside the radiation field, despite the widespread use of ADT, indicating radiation injury as the main cause of these fractures.
